About Me

Hello my name is Gina Bullock.
I grew up in Torrance, California, some of you may be more familiar with Redondo Beach, but it is about 20 minutes south of LA. I am a middle child; I have an older brother and a younger sister both two years apart from me. I attended Riviera Elementary School from K-5 and then Richardson Middle School from 6-8. After that I went to South Torrance High School where I played volleyball all four years. I would have to say that middle school was probably the most awkward years of my life where I hated being seen with parents and hung out with the wrong crowd and then finally shaped up the last years of high school. I started at CSUSM Fall of 2008 and have been here ever since working on my BA in Liberal Studies and to hopefully get into the Credential Program. I work at Campus Recreation, on Campus, located in the Clarke where I am the coordinator of marketing and advertising.
I have never been technology savvy but however, our generation forced it into our daily lives where I would consider myself to manage in the technological world. It all started with AIM (AOL Instant Messaging) where you had a super catchy screen name and you would sit for hours and talk to your friends. That’s where I mastered the skill to type without looking at the keyboard. I worked with Microsoft Word and a little bit of Excel in high school but nothing other than making graphs and charts. It took me 2 or 3 times to pass the excel part of the Computer Competency Requirement and now it is not even a requirement. My job has made me more comfortable with the Abode Programs and Excel but the whole idea of this computer class scares me. I am not familiar with MACs because I have Dell, but I did just convert to the Iphone so I am getting better.
When I applied to this school I heard it was growing and there education program was outstanding. I have never read the COE Mission Statement until a couple years ago but I do believe that our school does have a fantastic educational program. Our mission statement includes everything about how education needs to be perceived in this upcoming generation. Our mission statement says, we must “advance professional practices” and I link this to technology in the classroom. Since our technology is advancing rapidly we must adapt to our classrooms, performing the highest advancements for our teachers and our students. When I did my observation hours in the classroom last semester I couldn’t believe that in a high school classroom students’ were using a program similar to moodle and it was so effective. I feel like we must continue to educate our teachers to use these beneficial methods in their classrooms.

  1. Hello Gina,
I think that is awesome that you are the coordinator of marketing and advertising for CSUSM. That seems like a lot of work for being a full time student as well. I love how you brought up AIM! That was my addiction all throughout late elementary and middle school. Do you still remember your screen name?

  2. Hey Gina :) I totally started my technology days with AIM too!! It was so addicting and so easy to spend many hours on that thing! I agree with you, technology is more commonly used in the classroom and it's so important for everyone to understand it!
